Calstock was once an important port for the local mines, their goods being transferred from here down the River Tamar to the sea.
There was also a flourishing ship-building industry here.
The importance of the port declined rapidly after the railway was built in the early 1900s, but Calstock still celebrates this heritage by hosting a Regatta every year.
