16th October 2010

Look at that big grey cloud creeping up on us, friends! Unfortunately it caught us and we both got very wet!
It's lucky I had my posh green coat on isn't it!

Dad: I've had a few folks asking what I think of the 60D compared to the 40D... Well, things I like are the lighter weight and the extra
8 megapixels - if you look in our Autumn gallery at the leaf pictures added today, I think you'll agree that the extra megapixels have
resulted in some very nice extra detail on the leaf veins etc. This camera also does great colour, even in overcast conditions. I can see
this being a wonderful tool for plant/macro photography. And high iso performance is very, very impressive compared to the 40D
- with this camera I would use iso 1600 without hesitation, and even the iso 12800 shot I mistakenly took the other night wasn't
too bad. On the down-side so far... you can't get away with using slower shutter speeds handheld; I can handhold the 40D and
get useable shots at 1/50sec but with this camera they turn out blurred. Also, as you can see from today's Pooch photo, highlights
are quite easy to blow out, with I'd say less room for manoeuvre for recovering them in Photoshop than with the 40D. The
dynamic range is probably the only thing which has disappointed me so far, but hopefully I'll find ways to get round it as I get
used to the camera. Hope that helps those who asked. :-)

Thanks for the update. I am still curious to find out how often you use the articulating screen.

Pooch looks dapper in his posh green coat.

I like the darkness of this shot, and Pooches nice GREEN coat. Glad to hear you are enjoying your new camera. : ) v

A beautiful scene for this rainyday capture.
That 60D looks like a very impressive camera.

That nose is getting quite a work out I see! I'm impressed with the great
colour and light in this shot, and I'm like Steph, it would cause WWlll here too
if I changed over before I wore out my 40D!

Thanks for the mini-review, Ev... I was wondering those very things, especially after seeing that "accidental" shot the other day that looked so good!

Nice colours!

Nice contrasty-ness.

Cute Pooch shot today! :)
Since I still use my 40D regularly, and discussion about replacing it would result in WWIII, guess I'll stick with what I have.
I love the idea of more MP and higher ISO shots!

Beautiful contrast of the sunlit foreground (and dog) and the dark clouds. A lovely composition. Voted.
