Common toad

This chap surprised us one early evening on this remote narrow lane in north-west Skye. However by an hour after sunset on the same
evening, the lane had become a busy toad thoroughfare. We had been out to photograph a sunset and were amazed to encounter
what must have been hundreds of toads crossing the lane on our way back. We went out on subsequent nights but there were only
a handful to be seen. We can only assume that some sort of breeding migration occurred on this night, and they were all trying
to reach the loch on the other side of the lane. But early July seems very late for a breeding migration, even in northern Scotland.
It is a mystery!

Wonder what was going on... hmmm. Very nice photo here. Lots of close, sharp details.
