Dad: another check-up at the V*t today.
The cyclosporin has failed to work. It seems Pooch's dermatopy problems are among the 20% that the drug doesn't resolve.
So here's Pooch's new treatment regime - as you can see, seven different boxes and bottles.
Steroid sprays and steroid pills every other day. Steroid eye drops (for the allergic conjunctivitis which dogs are not supposed to
get, but which Pooch has anyway). Antibiotics. Anti-histamines. Special dermatitis shampoo three times a week.
And last but not least, monthly flea spot-on treatments (Pooch has a very severe flea bite allergy).
Why am I showing you this, instead of a cheery shot of Pooch on walkies?
Well, a lady emailed me the other day. She said she'd seen our Blog and wanted to "know what it is like" to share our lives with a westie.
Joyful walkies is certainly 'what it is like'. However, the above treatment regime is also 'what it is like'.
I'd advise anyone else out there thinking of getting a pedigree west highland white terrier: think carefully about whether
you can afford the cost and time commitment involved as your dog gets older and develops these sorts of problems.
