I recently visited North East Lincolnshire and obviously took my camera with me.
Using Google Maps I found a car park by the coast and headed for it. When I arrived I found to my delight that it was in fact RAF Donna Nook. Not an airfield of course but a Ministry of Defence bombing target range just off the coast. The area also includes a nature reserve and consists of saltmarsh, dunes and inter-tidal mudflats.
I took advantage of the fact that RAF Coningsby was only 30 miles away and headed down to see if there was any activity with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. I arrived in time to see several waves of Typhoons screaming overhead and preparations underway to start the BBMF’s Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster in readiness for their departure.
Photography of the aircraft on the ground was difficult as I was photographing through a plastic chain-link fence.
