The court, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, 2011

The extravagant graffiti on a brick wall overwhelms the faded and degraded basketball backboard that rises above it. The inhabitants of this neighborhood have left their mark on both, creating a contrasting definition of urban life on the streets of Brooklyn.

Well said, Iris. Playgrounds come in many varieties. This one has been used beyond its time, and defines the nature and character of the neighborhood as it is today. I am sure your own experience growing up in Brooklyn was quite different -- urban life is in constant change, and the "street" acts as the barometer of such change.

As a child growing up in Brooklyn, the streets were our urban playgrounds, as contrasted with the backyard communities I experienced upon moving to Los Angeles. While this image pays homage to the "streets", it also portrays the diversity and change that evolve within the urban setting.
