Fun, Scottsdale, Arizona, 2011

These children were attending a picnic at Scottsdale’s Civic Center Park. They were full of energy, and at the moment were engaged in a game of creating "human sandwiches." The child on the bottom is squealing in delight, and has a piece of blue gum hanging out of her mouth. This image expresses the human value at the core of uninhibited childs-play: fun.

Yes, I could have just as well used this image in my "context" gallery, But it is at home here, too. She was having fun, although her facial expression could well be seen as painful. In any event, both fun and pain are human values. It is up to the context, in this case provided by the title and caption, to clarify exactly what is happening. In my galleries, context is always present.

It's interesting to me the role that your caption plays here - one could almost view this as "Pain"
