Wing scales of a male Atlas moth (Attacus atlas)

The length of the horizontal field of view for this (uncropped) picture is approximately 2mm! The OM 20mm f2 macro lens was mounted on an OM 65-115
zoom extension tube (at full extension), focussed manually and stopped down to f11. The camera was mounted on
a Jessops 920 copystand. Illumination was provided by ttl flash (camera set to aperture priority mode)
using a FL36 unit plus FL-CB05 remote lead. As can be seen, the depth of field for this lens is tiny - LESS THAN 1mm! - hence the
left side of the photo looking softer than the right.

I am currently experimenting with "crushing" butterfly/moth wings under microscope glass slides - so that all wing scales lie in the same plane of focus ... initial results look promising ... SO WATCH THIS SPACE!
