These birds were shy and difficult to approach. Upto 54 were counted on the same field. They had been chased away from their usual nesting area by Common Buzzards. A few days later they started to build nests in a new area nearby. (See next gallery.) The birds display their breeding season colours, including reddened orange beaks, white feathers on their backs, extra long feathers on their front and also additional soft feathers on their belly to help keep the eggs warm soon. The shots are technically poor but were taken from a long distance and in poor light. They are deliberately under-exposed in order to preserve highlights.
