Raven Rock State Park, NC - April 2004

Here are some photos I took on a recent trip to Raven Rock State Park located in Harnett County NC. The park is located 6 miles west of Lillington and 20 miles east of Sanford.

Raven Rock Park is located on the fall line, which is the geological transition zone between upland region of the piedmont and flat terrain of the coastal plain. The topography is diverse, highlighted by the 152 ft. high outcropping of crystalline rock that gives the park its name.

The park's bluffs and ravine support more mountainous plants like rhododendron and mountain laurel. Raven Rock is also noted for its early spring display of diverse wildflowers. For more on my great home state of North Carolina check out my other galleries here on Pbase and on my website ScenicNC.com.
