Pinebarren Gentian

One of the showiest of the gentians.
The bright blue/violet flowers of this species are unmistakable.

Blooming time: late September - December
Occurs: coastal plain
Habitat: grows in a variety of sites varying from moist roadsides, woodland
borders and savannas to very xeric sandhills and longleaf pine flatwoods.
Uncommon, rare in VA and SC.
