Tragic Few Days Here

Flags in the area are at half mast for two tragic events.

On Wednesday evening, Rochester Police Office Daryl Pierson was killed on duty while chasing on foot a suspect.

On Friday morning the plane piloted by Rochester Real Estate Developer Larry Glazer and his wife Jane Glazer developed some sort of problem which resulted in both occupants becoming unresponsive and unable to fly the plane. The plane flew until it ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean near Jamaica.

Office Pierson was an 8 year veteran of the RPD, a husband and father to two small children - ages 4 years and 3 months. The suspect is a convicted felon who was recently released from prison.

The Glazers were prominent business owners, philanthropists, and active volunteers in the Rochester area.

A substantial loss to the community in both cases.

I had heard about the couple whose plane crashed near Jamaica but not the sad story of the brave police officer. I can understand why there is much sorrow in your area.

Wow, such tragedy coming so close together. I did hear on the news up here about the plane going down, but no real details. It is so sad.

So sorry to hear about the tragedies in Rochester. I couldn't imagine what it was when I saw the flag at half mast in the thumbnail...

I always dread viewing "old glory" flying at half mast, the news is never something one wishes to hear...
