Hurricane Irene Effect

While Hurricane Irene was no where near where I live (it was a good 350 - 400 miles east), the effect of this massive storm was seen on Lake Ontario today from the storm's far reaching winds. Steady north winds were in the 20 to 30 mph range with stronger gusts from time to time.

We had a "trifecta" of weather events this past week:

On Sunday Aug 21, 2011 an F2 tornado hit about 60 miles east of us.
On Tuesday Aug 23, 2011 we felt the earthquake that was centered in Virginia.
On Sat Aug 27, 2011 the outer winds from Hurricane Irene passed over us.

Yeah it's that kind of a weather year...

Yeah, we had all that too, plus a series of killer tornadoes that passed through Western Mass. What's next? Winter blizzards, ice storms, perhaps someone could discover a volcano?!~ :)

Well documented! Thanks for sharing this image of very choppy waters.

You did well to hold the camera steady in such gusty wind. Hope the rough weather has passed without causing damage in your area.

Terrific image. It really tells the story.

Super image, Patti! I thought I was having another bout of vertigo when the earthquake hit!

It seems to run in cycles, doesn't it? I can almost feel the wind in this shot with the flag stretched out straight!

You were fourinate not to be in it' path...

Wow, at least you didn't get hit with the full force. The water is really churning. Well captured, Patti!

My younger son lives in London, Ontario, and they've certainly had their share of 'weather' lately, too, Patti.
Fine documentary shot.

Superb shot showing the 'side effects' of the hurricane. Like you, we had strong winds today, and we also felt the earthquake centred in Virgina the other day. V

I wondered about you when I saw how wide it was. North Carolina got the very worse, I think.

Seems odd that you saw more of it than we did. It has been quite a week for your area; a good time to check out your insurance coverage ;~)

Looks like Alaska. I like the flag in there, good photojournalism.

A little stronger and you could be surfing! Hope this is the worst you get!

Terrific image. Irene was a naughty lady with the east coast folks.

Looks blustery - hopefully Irene won't cause too much damage.

Looks like very rough water! Nicely captured!
