From the dictionary:

".....something used for or regarded as representing something else; a material object
representing something, often something immaterial; emblem, token, or sign....."

They come in many forms. There is a universality about them. Some are purposely formed by man, some by nature. The most interesting symbols for me are those formed by man that are altered and transformed by nature and time. I sometimes like to think of them as indecipherable alien messages. I have no special knowledge of their meaning, if in fact, they have any meaning at all. I see them as abstract expressions more to be felt intuitively rather than cognitive
representations of mere visual facts. My photographs bare witness to their existence revealed to me by a subconscious dialog with my subjects.
