Threnos

Threnos hails from Olympia, WA. This was a particularly intense set. Very long and powerful songs. There are five songs on their self-titled CD. The layout of the jacket is beautiful, black with dark grey text and what appears to be hand-painted cover art (it appears to be hand-sponge/stamped). The CD itself is black with a very slim crescent moon painted on it. The quality is good, albeit a little on the quiet side. Just turn it up for a hail of guitar, bass and drums. It is a dark and relentless sound. I was very impressed with their dynamics and the longevity of the set. Apparently, There was some hard feelings about my taking these pictures without asking. I appologized an pleaded my case, I even offered to delete them. I spoke to the drummer, Johnny, afterwards and he indulged my wishes to process them for posting. He explained that the environment that they normally play in was a contrast to the near-daylight of this show. Keeping that in mind, flash photography does not normally occur at their shows due to it's obnoxiousness. At least, that was my interpretation. Johnny rules. It was a pleasure to meet him and to watch this band play. I'd see this band again, even if I had to leave the camera off. Flash is obnoxious and I'm a pig about using 2 of them for my shots. I've adopted the policy, since, of asking bands if they have aversions to flash photography. I hope my efforts on these images might make up for cramping their sytle? They've no web site currently, but the CD lists this email address:
