I had the pleasure of seeing the first ever show by Burial Year, at the Tehama space, with Akimbo. I'd have gone even if Akimbo wasn't playing. From the ashes, new life is born. There is a striking resemblance (80%) between Takaru (RIP) and Burial Year, but be assured that this distinct entity is capable of standing on its own eight legs. Make that 10 legs. Josh from Bullets In has been commisioned to fulfill the role of head-mouth-piece for Burial Year. Something to do with Josh being the man and Sean being lazy. Here's what one blogger wrote upon seeing them:

"And Burial Year... wow... fucking brutal. New singer Josh really brings this level of intensity and they just come off HEAVY AS SHIT... all caps necessary. Those guys really need to hook up with a bigger label... someone who realizes that they are doing the hardcore/metal crossover better than anyone right now."

I couldn't agree more. The HEAVINESS is unforgiving and their execution of power is palpable. I was rendered speachless after seeing this band. Those of you familiar with me will note that I almost never shut up. I resigned my response to their set with clenched fists.

Alas, Rest in peace, Burial Year. Please know that this band meant a great deal to me. Bands are living things, consisting of living things, time and space. It was a pleasure to experience all of it. Phenominal people sometimes make phenominal bands.
