After seeing Mom and Dad off, we head back, for one more hike. |
Finally at the Willis Creek trailhead. |
The creek is special for its several "slot canyon" sections |
First view of the canyon, and the trail soon takes us down into it. |
 Thistle and rock |
Now the little canyon narrows and deepens |
The colors and textures and forms are a photographer's delight. |
Gary, in the slot canyon |
The going is slow.... So many pictures to take! |
Gary examines interesting shapes in the sandstone |
 Scarlet Gilia |
The canyon opens up for awhile and then narrows again... |
 Fall color |
Looking into the stream at my feet |
The stream falls several feet through a slot in the sandstone. |
Gary bypasses the "waterfall" on the left and comes down into the canyon again. |
A pause to rest the injured knee and enjoy the scenery. |
The stream squeezes into another slot. |
 Secluded and beautiful... |
I pose for a photo. (Gary has borrowed my camera.) |
The crutches are handy for stream-hopping. |
 Scored and scalloped rock! |
There's plenty of black desert varnish here, too. |
Always the anticipation -- what's around the next bend? |
This is what's around the bend! Gary watches for me to appear and waves with a crutch. |
Another bend -- and you can hardly tell it's there, but the stream disappears... |
... and when we peek around the rock, this is the view. |
In an open part of the canyon we come upon an arch, high on the wall. |
Not far past the arch we decide it's time we must turn around and head back. |
 Heading back |
Breasting a rise on the Skutumpah Road, on our way down and out... |
