The wildebeest, or gnu, is the most abundant of the large grazing ruminants in the
Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. Their annual south to north and back south again migration,
which follows the seasonal rains and greening of the grass, requires a full year to complete.
In their travels, they are accompanied by herds of zebras.
