Our camp, near the border of Canyonlands National Park |
Here we are, enjoying that first campsite |

Another sunset shot near Canyonlands |

The Cave Spring Trail was the next one we hiked |

A close-up of the pictographs and "hanging garden" |
 Indian grinding stone |
A ladder, on the Cave Spring Trail |
The "high point" of the Cave Spring Trail |
Up on the top, we find many little potholes filled by the recent rain. |
On this cloudy day the colors are so rich... |
Dad, who has just "shot" me |
Gary and Me - the photo Dad had just taken in that last picture |
Canyonlands has many mushroom-shaped rock formations |
The dark streaks and patches on desert rock are called "desert varnish" |

This chipmunk seems to be grooming its foot |
At the end of our last day in Canyonlands, we climb in hopes of sunset pictures |
 Sunset, September 17 |
It isn't the sunset, but even the reflected light is glorious |
After leaving the park, we stop at Newspaper Rock, right there beside the highway |
There are pectoglyphs on this rock wall by the ancient Indians, then cowboys, then (unfortunately) modern-day "graffiti" |
This wall is in a long, beautiful canyon used through the ages as a travel corridor. |
Gary, puzzling over the images -- what do those many-toed feet mean?... |
