Tortuguero is a small village in northern part of Costa Rica's Caribbean.
Located on a narrow strip of land between the sea and wonderful net of natural, sweet water canals it's famous for unforgettable jungle experience.
Since large area of jungle/canals is set aside as a national park, it's a prime spot for observing wildlife. You could experience jungle by foot, but there is nothing better then quietly gliding thru the canals in a kayak, being completely surrounded by lush vegetation.
In the nesting season, you can observe thousands of turtles emerging from the sea to lay eggs at Tortuguero beaches.
The village itself is quite unique. There are no roads, no cars, all transportation is done by boat.
One of the few places in Costa Rica with no iron bars in doors and windows, with kids playing outside using their own creativity instead of sitting in front of PC.
It's a rain forest. Percipitation exeeds 12 ft per year and humidity is close to 100%.
It's raining on and off all year round and a simple task of drying your laundry may take several days.
