The Cathedral Of Christ The Light

The Cathedral of Christ The light in Oakland, California.
Completed in September 2008, it replaces St. Francis de Sales cathedral damaged by Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.
Designed by Craig Hartman,the cathedral has a concrete base with a structure made of stainless steel, glass and wood. It seats 1300 people and it stands on a two and a half acre site.
Mass is offered in 13 different languages.
Cost to build: $190 million.
As much as I wasn't impressed with exterior, cathedral's interior is just stunning.
Spell L I G H T. Phenomenal use of natural and artificial, surfaces with different reflective characteristics WOW! I will definately make another trip there.

the architecture is unique but is lacking something very important. it seems cold, unfeeling, institutional. a circular seating formation and plants would help. the christ image and the crucifix are very distracting...and disturbing. good photos btw!
