The Old Hall

Binnenhof, The Hague, Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands view map

The Oude Zaal (Old Hall) is the former meeting room of the House of Representatives at the Binnenhof in The Hague. It was built in 1777 as a ballroom for the new palace of stadtholder William V of Orange-Nassau.
As a ballroom, it was used only temporarily and irregularly. From March 1, 1796, it served as the meeting room of the National Assembly of the Batavian Republic.
With the end of French rule and the arrival of King William I in 1815, this hall became the meeting room of the House of Representatives. On October 16, 1815, he opened the first ordinary session of the States General in the ballroom.
