Farm complex (R) with an attached parent house (L)

Ruinerwold, De Wolden, province of Drenthe, The Netherlands view map

The double building was originally constructed in 1855. Around 1890, renovations took place during which the characteristic layout as an "attached senior residence" (or bourgeois home) was further developed. Following subsequent renovations, the buildings are now fully occupied as private residences.

Strictly trained trees stand directly in front of the facade. This is a centuries-old tradition among Drenthe and Frisian bourgeois homes and farmhouses. Historically, they served as a natural sunshade to keep the bright sun out of the parlor and kept flies away from the front door.

The home and its ground look so well cared for. So nice to see this piece of history preserved so well.
