Staircase interior of the former Reformed Deaconry Orphanage (Hervormd Diaconieweeshuis, now Bastion le Roi). Originally built in 1867 by architect Elie Saraber and substantially renovated in 1925–1926 by G. van Hoogevest.
Since 1992, the complex has served as a residential unit and houses 85 owner-occupied apartments surrounding a monumental inner courtyard. The symmetric split-flight staircase is illuminated by a prominent geometric stained-glass skylight.
