The Dos-à-Dos was powered by the “contra engine”, the world’s first opposed-piston engine developed by Benz & Cie. The car derived its name from the fact that passengers were seated “back to back”. In this way, they were not in the driver’s field of vision as had still been the case in the Vis-à-Vis model.
