One of the oldest churches in the province of Groningen.
The Reformed church, located on an originally moated site, is a single-nave church with a narrower choir, provided with a recessed, five-sided choir closure, and a tower with two sections with an eight-sided constricted spire. The choir was probably built in the 12th century and has a bricked-up entrance in the south wall. The current nave and tower were probably built in the first quarter of the 13th century. In the middle of the 16th century, the tower was raised with a bell loft and the nave was given its current roof. The north facade of the nave was probably completely re-clad in a major renovation in 1770. In 1886, the tower was given its current spire.
