The Swiss architect and sculptor Walter Maria Förderer designed the church as a kind of "fallen boulder" amidst the Swiss Alps.
The whimsical, geometric forms of the exterior mimic the surrounding mountain peaks. Inside the church, the rough concrete forms flow into labyrinthine ceilings, wooden pews, and colorful stained-glass windows.
