Here, the limewash on the natural stone walls is clearly visible. The cracks and the crumbled corner on the left show how vulnerable the structure was without a watertight roof. The thickness of the thatch layer indicates many decades of re-thatching (new layers over the old ones). The poster behind the glass appears to be an advertisement for Nitro-CROP, a type of fertilizer that was popular among Irish farmers.
