The "Lazy Beds" were created by manual farming, where soil and seaweed were piled up to grow potatoes on poor or wet soil. The field is bordered by traditional Irish dry stone walls. On the left, you can see a steep, crumbling edge where the sea has literally chipped away pieces from the landscape (often a drumlin or glacial deposit). The wooden-post, mesh-and-wire fence in the foreground is necessary to keep the famous Old Irish Goats or the local sheep within (or outside) certain zones to prevent overgrazing and further erosion.
