This photo was taken in 2008. In 2026, an attempt was made to locate the house on Google Maps (Street View). Over the past 18 years, the house had been hidden from view by vegetation. Eventually, progress was made via the Public Planning Viewer of the Planning Department of the Galway County Council. Their database provided the answer.
It is not so much the house itself, but the location that has an interesting history. The old Derryneen School, a primary school built after the introduction of the national school system (1830s), stood here. Many of those schools in suburban areas had only one classroom and one teacher. The school likely closed in the mid-20th century and subsequently fell into disrepair.
The owner of the property received permission in 2003 to demolish the school and build a home. The house in the photo was built in 2004.
