Mullaghmore is a well-known mountain in The Burren. It is famous for its "layered" appearance, which resembles a giant stone cake due to the folded limestone layers. At 180 meters, it is technically a hill, but due to its prominent location in the flat landscape, it is often referred to as a mountain. The mountain range has no sharp peaks but is actually a vast limestone highland (karst landscape). The mountain range and the region in which it is located share the same name, namely The Burren.
The Burren covers approximately 360 square kilometers in North Clare.
