The cottage is constructed from local limestone with thick walls. The property is known as a "derelict property".
Update 2026: In the meantime, the roof (of slate and straw) has collapsed, further deteriorating the condition of this uninhabited house. In June 2022, the plot of approximately 0.8 acres, including the ruins, was offered for sale as a renovation project. The advertisement highlighted the possibilities of restoring the cottage to its former glory as a home with the help of a grant. To date, no buyer has been found. In 2025, someone purchased the property. The new owner will likely make use of a grant (up to €70,000) that the Irish government has made available since 2022-2023 for the restoration of such "derelict properties" (labeled as cultural heritage), which has significantly increased interest in this type of dilapidated cottage.
