Poulnabrone Dolmen

R480, Poulnabrone, Kilcorney, Co. Clare, Ireland view map

Poulnabrone Dolmen is a portal tomb consisting of two large standing stones (the portals) supporting an enormous, sloping capstone. The capstone is approximately 3.6 meters long and the monument is approximately 1.8 meters high. It is located near the R480 road between Ballyvaughan and Corofin.
It is one of the oldest dated megalithic monuments in Ireland, built in the early Neolithic period between 3800 and 3200 BC. During excavations in the 1980s, the remains of at least 33 people (adults and children) were found.
