Cottage ruin and stone walls

Knockaunsmountain, Killonaghan, County Clare, Ireland view map

Photo taken of a narrow road without a name or road number. Locally, this route is known as the road through the townland of Knockaunsmountain. It lies against the border of the townland of Blakesmountain.
The property in the photo is an abandoned 19th-century cottage, likely permanently abandoned in the first half of the 20th century. Due to the extreme stony nature of the soil in Knockaunsmountain, agriculture here was marginal, causing many residents to move to nearby villages or emigrate.

The dry stone walls in the foreground are characteristic of this region.
