The old concrete pier of Doolin. This is the pier that was in use before the new construction of 2014–2015. The pier served fishermen well for many years. Subsequently, the first ferry services to the Aran Islands began in the 1970s. As the islands became more popular as a tourist destination, the number of ferries and passengers continued to grow year after year.
At the beginning of this century, the pier was deemed unsuitable and even dangerous. At low tide, the pier was inaccessible, forcing passengers to board using smaller curraghs (traditional Irish boats). Doolin Pier In 2014, construction began on a brand-new pier.
The Doolin Pier serves as the departure point for boat trips to the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher.
