The ruins you see on the left in the photo are the remains of the Marconi Telegraph Station at Brow Head. Guglielmo Marconi established an important station here in 1904. It was used to receive wireless messages from ships in the Atlantic Ocean, which were relayed via the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse.
The ruins on the right are officially designated as a Signal Tower, as they were part of a specific series of coastal defense towers that communicated using flags and fire.
According to local tradition, these buildings were destroyed by the "Irregulars" in 1922 during the Irish Civil War.
