Fred:

I'm a big fan of supercharged gassers, and I see from your pics that you've crewed on a few. I also heard that your dad may have shot photos at SIR in the 70s. I've been searching for years for pictures of some of the blown gassers from the Northwest, and was hoping you or your dad may have some. I'm looking for the original 33 Willys of Mel Bryson, Steve McGee, Hikida & McHardy, Twig Ziegler, Chuck Byrd, the Anglia of Jim Rockstad, and Bob Gibson's Thames (Anglia) panel van. I'm also looking for more pics of Mike Svoboda's car. Please let me know if you can help. I'd be happy to pay for the pictures.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,
I saw your interesting pictures taken with a 70-200 mm using the 2X converter.
I am facing a crual dilemna about choosing the rigth lens to my needs (price is not a limit on that issue): I know that the Canon EF f/2.8 70-200 mm can compete with primes but the IS version is heavier than the 100-400 mm version, and at the other hand the 100-400mm is fun to use.
did you see this link on pbase:
http://www.pbase.com/russruth/1ds
this professionnal photographer did some real artwork with the 70-200 mm f/2.8 (with wonderfull bokeh !).
Will I be able to perform some good protraits with the 100-400mm even under bad ligth conditions ? for example, is f4 enough to make some good portraits shots between 100 an 150mm ?
At the other hand I am afraid to feel a kind of frustration of been able to go further that 200mm when I would need it !
Some pretend that at full range (400mm), the lens looses some picture quality, what do you think about that ?
At the other hand I saw what you are able to do with a 100-400mm adding a 2xconverter.
Another interesting comparison can be seen at :
http://www.pbase.com/dana/astro , a woman did some astronomical pictures of the moon with a 70-200mm and a 100-400mm too, using a X1.4 converter and finally applying
another 1.6 factor (used with a D10), she concludes that the best result is not performed with the 70-200 mm and X2 converter but the 300 mm focal used with a X1.4 converter !
Finally I would appreciate to have your opinion about wich lens you would choose like suppose I would have to keep only one, which one would I keep ?

Regards

Georges

Looking good, Phred--looking forward to you posting some of your other works too. The "Freighter" picture that I was referring to was actually a night shot--didn't realize that the cloud one also had a freighter in it! Some nice shots--certainly note that you are into cars too!
