We had a visitor yesterday ...
We have a large cherry tree in our front yard which is about 30 feet tall and each year at this time it provides us a few bowls of fresh cherries to munch on during TV commercials ... that is if we're able to beat the birds (especially Crows) to the fruit. As in time past, this year the tree provided fruit for our family members, the neighbourhood kids, a family of four raccoons and some local deer. Below is one of two recently born fawns who goes out of its way to eat cherry tree leaves recently fallen on the ground as a result of others picking cherries.
This has evolved into annual tradition at our house and while at first glance it would seem this is all about cherries, there are other benefits we derive which are even more important ... such as opportunities to build and nurture relationships within our family community and the opportunity to keep connected with Nature for it would be difficult to witness a scene such as this without experiencing 'warm and fuzzy' feelings in the soul.
