Some of this year's peregrine chicks are going to get some "extra" bling before they fledge. Manitoba Conservation has given approval for a PhD research project to track some of our young peregrines via satellite transmitter on their travels over the next couple of years. We know where peregrines go during migration in a general sense and over the years we have had reports of Manitoba birds in Florida, Texas, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Brazil during the winter months. This research project will hopefully add to our knowledge of where our peregrines go but more importantly which route(s) they use which in turn could help us to protect important raptor migration sites along their route(s). The Peregrine Falcon Recovery Project has been asked to participate to provide expert advice on the Manitoba peregrines and assistance to help ensure the peregrines' safety and well-being.
Rosser 14/X and Rain D/U have both recieved a Transmitter.
