A beautifully restored Whipple Through Truss once spanned the Lampasas River, South of Belton in Bell County. Built in 1889 by the Penn Bridge Company, of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, It was 196 feet long and consisted of 11 pin-connected panels. A very ornate bridge with both plaques intact and medallions on both ends of the portals, but sadly it time had come. Not from demolition from old age or neglect, but from a 94 Chevy pickup. On February 5 2006 a truck struck the northwest corner of the bridge causing it to fall into the river. Sadly all that remains of this once beautiful bridge is sitting in a field just south of its location.
