Palmer snowfield is where skiing happens in the summer, and in good weather in the fall and spring.

The smooth white "bank" in the center of the photo is the glacial moraine along the west side of white river, which you can see continuing further out between the wooded area.

An "advanced" unmarked backcountry ski (for cross country skiers) goes from timberline lodge ski area to white river.
