This brings back many memories.
I visited on this carrier as a child escorted by my Brother-In-Law.
He was a Navy Ensign assigned to the Intrepid in the sixties.
It also reminded me of a recent lecture by Astronaut Story Musgrave.
He had flown a propeller driven fighter of an older carrier.
His brother flew the same plane off the same carrier but didn't get enough
lift and crashed in the sea. The aircraft carrier ran over him.
I noticed this and other carriers have the runway at an angle.
I wonder if this is so the a crash does not occur in front of the moving ship.
