Let'er Buck: Photographs from the 2008 Pendleton Roundup

Each September thousands of rodeo fans descend on the small city of Pendleton, Oregon for the Roundup. Since 1910, the roundup has served as "a frontier exhibition of picturesque pastimes, Indian and military spectacles, cowboy racing and bronco busting for the championship of the Northwest." The rodeo itself is the main draw, but there is much more to see. Native Americans from the Confederated Tribes of the nearby Umatilla Indian Reservation live on the grounds in teepees in a tribal village. There are pow-wows, dancing, beauty contests, and parades. As interesting as the actual rodeo is, I found the contestants, the tribal members, and the crowds to be particularly attractive. This is a small selection of images from my day in Pendleton.
