Held every few months in the historic Mayan Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, LuchaVaVoom combines theatre, burlesque, freak shows, and Mexican wrestling. LuchaVaVoom mixes the thrill of victory with the agony of defeat. It is life and death drama, good versus evil, sexo y violencia. "Fierce yet spastic" psychotic twin chickens, said to have escaped from a national fried chicken chain, swoop down from the ropes and the ring into the crowd, pecking their hapless opponents into submission. Another great wrestler, Cassandro, combines "class, elegance and Hollywood glamour," truly making him the "Queen of the Ring." He is said to have "appeared at the Louvre, exhibiting Lucha Libre to the hoi polloi in Paris." He is a formidable opponent who can swing a mean folding chair. There is little doubt that Cassandro "is a lethal combination of frost n' tip and prison tattoos; you do not want to mess with him." And let us not forget a crowd favorite, "Li'l Chicken," the midget wrestler who has been known to fly down from the balcony at the Mayan Theatre to launch a brutal and unforgiving attack on his ring opponent. It's a sight to behold.
