This was my first attempt to capture Red Sprites. Sprites are a form of plasma that accompany lightning storms that are seen in the troposphere at an altitude of 50–90 km (31–56 mi).

This is a rather underwhelming display that I caught above a storm that was occurring in El Paso, TX (about 175 miles away) and occurred in the constellation of Orion. The belt and sword of Orion are easily visible.
