The color image on the left was actually taken 11 Minutes after the B&W image, which has been edited in Photoshop to stretch the brightness to show more extension of the comet's tail. You can see a definite disconnection in the tail toward the top of the frame in both color & B&W images, but more so in the B&W where the contrast was stretched.
