The Behind of a Puma

Torres del Paine, Chile

So the picture here is not much of anything, but the story is great! We were in our room at the hotel in Torres del Paine and one morning Michelle said, look out the window and see what bird is out there chirping away. So to humor her I did, to find only about 20 feet away was the Puma were had been told was hanging around the hotel! I said to Michelle, "Come her now, right now". She came over to look out the window to see the Puma pass right below our window. He could have been no more than 3 feet away! We could not have had a better view, and a camera was not the thing to try to wast my time getting. I could have grabbed my cell phone to shoot him that was on my hip, but that would mean making noise as I would need to release the velcro holding it in, and might scare him off. It was NOT the thing I needed to do right away. He was just sauntering along at a slow pace.

To get this shot I went out into the hall and walked in the direct of his walk and found a windowed atrium where I used the cell phone to take this shot. He was already a good distance away and was heading toward the hotel's garden area (which was fenced in, with someone in there doing some gardening). So indeed, not a great pic, but a great story!
