This is an obelisk found at the opposite end of the Hippodrome of Constantinople from the Egyptian Obelisk. This obelisk is thought to have been gilded in bronze during its time. Horse and chariot races were held here on a regular basis.
A partial 3rd "obelisk" is located between the two and is known as the "Delphi Tripod", and also as the "Serpent Column", the remains of which can be seen as a singular spiral pole that extends a few feet above ground level.
