Calculations indicated the West Mitten shadow would be on top of the East Mitten on March 30th for 2018, but I went down early to see if it might be close enough to capture it before and after the 30th. Indeed the sky on the western horizon was quite hazy, but there was a slight break near the horizon. We had no more than 5 minutes of shadow on this evening, and it was rather poor. We did NOT get to see the shadow centered on the bluff on this evening before the clouds obscured the shadow.

This was the view on March 30th. Obviously the Moon was much lower, and a few degrees above the horizon at sunset. The shadow can only be in this position twice in a year, close to but not quite on the equinox, usually around March 29-30, and September 12, but will the Moon be full during these dates?
