So this was an X2 flare that erupted and the aurora started on the other side of the planet, and 10 hours later arrived in the U.S. A quarter Moon was out hampering the activity which after sunset could barely be seen. There was no structure in it to speak of, everything was just a hazy glow of green in the north, with some reds just north of the Moon, and a bit of red in the northwest, which started to show some structure. Then began to show some rays a little before 9:00 pm local time and lasted until about 9:20 pm. The sky was still red until I left at 10:15 pm. I checked a couple of times from home during the night but did not detect any bright structures.
Most of the pix here were made with a wide angle lens which covers more than half the sky. Looking at the images here, even with the "original" size, cannot even begin to show you the number of stars in the pictures as shown on the true original image with magnification.
